Problem:
Chris Carney, a Democrat running for a congressional seat in a heavily Republican area, was gifted with a scandal in which the incumbent Republican physically abused his mistress. How to respond?
Solution:
I lobbied to be extremely aggressive with the messaging in the campaign’s ads, including one titled “Father” in which an everyday man holds up a large photograph of his daughter and imagines what it would be like for his daughter to be beaten by Carney’s opponent.
Result
Chris Carney won his race, the ad won a Pollie Award (the political media version of an Oscar) and also went viral online, including being featured in a Daily Show segment.
